The human voice and in particular the singing voice, is a thing of beauty that never fails to surprise or capture our hearts. Our ability to create music while using words is one of the most defining characteristics of the human species and an ongoing subject of scientific and psychological research.
Art Song Canberra is proud to be one of the very few organisations in Australia devoted to the regular performance and appreciation of art song in all its many and varied forms. Our Season of Song is an annual series of recitals showcasing the talents of our local, national and international artists. We strive to keep art song alive, vibrant and relevant in this day and age.
After fifty years of activity, Art Song Canberra embraces the future of the art form with care and responsibility. How to strengthen its place in the Australian arts scene, and how to support its practitioners?
The vocal finesse, musical expertise, language skill, stylistic awareness and performance flair required for art song is formidable. We have to be able to support this extraordinary level of dedication. At the same time, we have to be able to grow the network that allows the art form to thrive in Australia.
